I needed some tires for my Rodeo, and after shopping around, I had decided to purchase some blemished Mickey Thompson ATZs. Problem was, when I went to order them, they were out of stock. My only options were tires I didn't like or MTs. I really didn't need an MT but ended up going that route since I had already paid and didn't want to shop around any further. End result, the guy at the store gave me some Dick Cepek Mountain Cats for $145 a tire, free shipping. Cost me another $50 to get them mounted and balanced.
Upon arrival, I could not tell what made them considered blemished. All I could find was some of the white missing on the white letters. No big deal since I was running the white letters in. I did find a few scuffs in the sidewalls after they were mounted. It looks like the scuffs could have happened when they came off the press. Nothing is bad enough to make me concerned and the manufacturers warranty still applies.
Here they are mounted.
Overall, my first impressions are good. They ride nice on the road but are a little louder than the BFG MTs I was running. I drove them out on the beach in Florida and they did well, allowing me enough flotation and traction to paddle my way through the soft sand in 2wd. They have good siping for the winter, plus they have mounting locations for studs which is a nice option considering the ice we get on occasion. The sidewall lugs are nice and deep so they should help in mud and protect well enough on rocks. We'll see, I'll post up my experiences as I use these in other conditions.
